«It seems to me that representatives of the majority, I’m talking about ministers, parliamentarians, but also regional presidents, have woken up a little late, because from the beginning we have been saying that this way the country will split, territorial inequalities will increase, Let’s explain what differentiated autonomy means. So if there is a change of heart, we will also verify it among those who support the referendum.” He said it Elly Schlein in Mormanno speaking with journalists on the sidelines of the States General of the mountains and the internal areas of the Democratic Party.
«It means establishing by law – added Schlein – that there are second-class citizens and second-class citizens, depending on the region and the place in which they are born and grow up. We, however, have a beautiful Constitution that talks about equality, which must also apply in access to the right to health, which however is not the case, you know how the health situation is in Calabria, as well as the right to local public transport, in which the national government has not invested a single euro, it hasn’t sent a single euro to the municipalities, just like public schools, which are the first great lever for people’s social emancipation.”
For the secretary of the Democratic Party «if we want to give young people a better future, that’s where we start to reduce inequalitiesbecause we do not accept the idea of an Italy in which it is the family and the place where you are born that define your destiny. It is indeed a violation of Article 3 of the Constitution. We are happy with the result to which the Democratic Party has made an important contribution in collecting signatures and we will work in these months to bring the country to the vote and to stop this unjust law.”
From Pd concrete proposals for internal areas
Then Elly Schlein said: «I have come to Calabria several times to witness this closeness, this attention to internal areas, which means that we are developing concrete proposals that first of all look at the profound causes of the discomfort with which citizens who so often live in internal areas they have to try their hand at it. We don’t hide some things from ourselves. First: i transport must improve, both physical and digital mobility must improve. The State also needs to do its part, that all public institutions do their part to provide services to these territories and to encourage new economic activities that bring quality jobs. Because when you lose a job in an internal or mountain area it’s worth double because it risks taking away much else.”
«So if we want to avoid depopulation we must overcome these inequalities with concrete measures, do it starting from the funds that must be allocated for these areas. We – the PD secretary further explained – are also thinking about tax relief proposals that can help economic settlement and employment in these territories. We look at the extraordinary beauty in which we are immersed here in the Pollino, and this beauty leads us to say that we must take more care of these territories. It is an issue on which the Democratic Party is the political force that is insisting the most, but we do it with great conviction and with great awareness because it is part of our idea of the future of this country.”
“For us – concluded Schlein – the internal areas are not a separate chapter of a government program that we want to offer to the country”.
Unifil: no more war crimes. Netanyahu stop
“This attack is very serious and completely unacceptable, a deliberate and repeated attack.” Elly Schlein said this, speaking to journalists in Mormanno, after Israel’s new attack on Unifil. «We – he added – are once again asking that the government come and report to the Chamber of Parliament as soon as possible. We ask that Italy is not left alone, that the entire European Union and the international community take action against what is unacceptable, in violation of international law.”
«These are war crimes – insisted the PD secretary – unfortunately we have already seen them in Gaza in recent months. Well, every limit has been exceeded for months and months, since October last year.”
“It is necessary for this conflict to stop, for there to be a ceasefire in Lebanon, for there to be a ceasefire in Gaza and Netanyahu must stop,” the Dem leader said again.
Maneuver: Schlein, opposition can’t see it at the last minute
The tax game «is open. Probably the Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni would give a different answer: the problem is that it is denied by the government documents themselves» says Elly Schlein speaking to journalists in Mormanno.
«Giorgia Meloni – adds the Pd secretary – made a video just a few days ago to say ‘don’t worry, we have no intention of increasing the tax burden’. All things considered, this year it is already increasing and the announcements regarding the next budget deserve to be checked promptly. Giorgetti’s announcements, because then they are quick to deny it: in short, in the end the citizens also struggle to understand what lies ahead.”
“Us we expect the documents on the next budget maneuver to be presented within the expected timeframewhich do not arrive at the last moment and which – he continues – also put the opposition in a position to do their duty. What we have reported in recent days, even being accused by the Prime Minister of making things up, is actually written in the Structural Budget Plan that her Council of Ministers approved. On page 116, you can all check, it says ‘alignment of excise duties on diesel with petrol’. It means raising excise duties.”
«Estimates speak of 3 billion more in the pockets of Italian families and businesses, 70 euros per family according to Unem accounts. Here: this is a new Meloni tax and we – concludes Schlein – ask Giorgia Meloni to clarify to the country why they are insisting on putting this new ‘Melonì tax, while on the other hand they do not invest in local public transport or even in sustainable mobility ».
Good Conte on Liguria, we are stubbornly unitary
«We have always been stubbornly unitary, we will continue to be so. We have certainly always been available and we continue to be available too”, said Elly Schlein, commenting to journalists in Mormanno Giuseppe Conte’s words on the availability of an agreement in Liguria.
«Liguria – added the Pd secretary – faces a very important challenge with an excellent candidacy on our part, that of Andrea Orlando, who has all the skills, on public health, work, reindustrialisation, which are needed to ensure a future after nine years of misgovernment by the right.”
