“Il Maggio dei Libri”: concluded in Crotone the 2025 edition full of events dedicated to reading, poetry and music

The 2025 edition of “Il Maggio dei Libri”, promoted by the Department of Culture and the Municipal Library “Armando Lucifer”, with the collaboration of numerous partners.

A month full of appointments dedicated to reading, poetry and music, which saw a significant participation by the public and a strong involvement of the territory.

Numerous meetings with authors, readings aloud, musical performances and events for children and teenagers, organized thanks to the synergy with the realities belonging to the local pact for reading, which is confirmed as a precious tool for shared cultural promotion.

Among the most significant moments, the Aurora Festival promoted by the Odyssea Foundation, with the artistic direction of Alessia J. Magliacane of the Ju Juantainment in Naples, with appointments that have brought important names to the city from the Italian publishing scene: Gianluca Peciola, with “The line of silence” (Solferino), Titti Marrone with “Primmamamore” (Feltrinelli), Mario Avagliano“Italians of America. Great emigration to the United States” (Il Mulino), Fabio Cicontewith “food is political” (Einaudi), Luigi de Magistris, with “hidden powers” (Fazi), e Michelangelo Iossa And Germano Massenziowith “Rino Gaetano. Under an increasingly blue sky (Hoepli).

And again Gianluca acting And Sandra Giglio with “The mother of the Turkish”, Pietrino Fabiano with “one more rose. Stories of men and women who have fought in vain”, Tommaso Tedesco With an essay on the fortifications of the city in the 16th century.

The Library of Madness with readings and meetings with the authors also involved (( Fausto Burdino with the “tears in the fog”, Maria Rosa Stumpto with “The legend of Berenice”).

At the library Pier Giorgio Frassatiedited by the Ettoris Foundation, the presentation of the book “A Carcara – Human events around a furnace” of Gennaro Torchia.

The Naval League hosted the initiative “Climate transformations and anthropization: connection or fantasy?” By the Schola Italika and the Dante Alighieri company Crotone Committee, the award ceremony of the 5th edition of the “Dante father of our language” competition.

The special postal philatelic cancellation portrayed the effigy of the Madonna di Capo Colonna and the concert in memory of the Maestro Giuseppe Campagna at the church of S. Rita.

The presentation of the book of Nicola Giordano“The prayer: the singing of the heart”, curated by the Vivere in association.

The event “Poesionaria, Mediterrainpiazza in Piazza Marinai d’Italia by the Cambio Varrementi Association and Kroton Sport & Social”.

In May also recreational-didactic, reading and music therapy workshops, curated by the library, together with the association we mothers and baby and, for the first time, by the volunteers of active citizenship (Luisa Floccari, Lidia Milito, Patrizia Lumaster, Corina Trasca), and in collaboration also with the Confraternity of Papanice’s Mercy at the Casa delle Associations.

Finally, a novelty for the May calendar, the realization of a choral concert of sacred music, directed by Luisa Floccaridedicated to the Virgin of Capo Colonna and inspired by the Lauda Mariana of the Laudario di Cortona, manuscript dating back to the second half of the thirteenth century, the oldest music code present in Italy and preserved at the Municipal Library of Cortona which kindly granted the scores. The concert obtained the granting of the patronage of the Tuscan Municipality.

The month of May, therefore, is confirmed, once again, stage of books and readings, to remark their importance as a tool for personal growth and community encounter, a month that is now a fundamental appointment for the cultural life of the city.
