2026 is born on the fragments of a year that Istat sent into retirement in the sign of an apparently mild national average inflation: +1.5%. A value which, read from Rome upwards, seems to suggest a truce in price increases. But as soon as the gaze descends along the Peninsula, Italy breaks down and Calabria emerges as one of the places where the cost of living has hit with greatest intensity. In 2025 the region will be in second place, with +1.9%, on par with Trentino Alto Adige, behind only Puglia, which closed the last twelve months with +2.1%, the highest figure ever. It is a photograph that surprises only those who look at the country with ancient maps. The increase in prices no longer follows wealth, but occurs, above all, where sources of income are more fragile and services cost more.
