Maneuver, in Calabria many tears and few smiles

More disappointed than satisfied. The text of the budget law recently approved by the government, signed by President Sergio Mattarella and sent to Parliament for examination and approval, makes many in Calabria frown. Above all, it is the healthcare workers who “cry” as they see some of the objectives set on the eve of this important appointment at risk. Not only (minimum) increases in the specific allowance, but also an increase in resources considered by many to be “insufficient”. An analysis conducted by the Gimbe Foundation lists all the anomalies that risk sending the “weakest” health systems such as the Calabrian one into crisis. Four critical points emerge from the study: «The real increase – claims Gimbe – is only 1.3 billion, compared to the 3.5 billion announced, making it impossible to satisfy the requests of healthcare professionals; the only increase in resources is expected only in 2026; resources are dispersed in too many streams, without a clear vision of relaunching the NHS; we cannot see any progressive revival of public financing which, after the “blaze” of 2026, returns to the ordinary maintenance figures of the pre-pandemic era”. From Faced with this framework, the feared risk for the Regions (Calabria first and foremost) is that they will be forced to take drastic measures: either rationalizing spending, or cutting other services or increasing the additional Irpef tax. A mockery, in short, considering that here we already pay taxes that are among the highest in the country due to the recovery plan to which Calabria has been subjected for 15 years now.
The school operators are also concerned about what was launched by the Meloni executive. The cuts coming to teaching and technical staff risk further complicating a problematic situation. The Calabrian Uil has responded to the alarm raised by many parties, speaking of «a real ax falling on the school. These cuts not only compromise the normal functioning of educational institutions, but put the entire structure of the educational offer at risk, particularly in the internal areas of Calabria. Here, schools are not just places of education, but authentic safeguards of legality, centers of social aggregation for families and a tangible symbol of the presence of the State in territories often afflicted by mafia infiltration”.
