“I am clearly against the provision of suspension of an 11-year-old pupil who has a very serious disability.” The councilor for social policies of the municipality of Messina, Alessandra Calafiore, says this regarding the story of the schoolboy suspended for touching a classmate. “The boy has three support figures – he adds – he is followed by the Municipality’s services. The school did not interface with us who would have found mediation. Suspension, even if with compulsory attendance, is a negative signal that goes against our policies. In these cases the Municipality should be contacted and involved. The administrator will ask for a report on the matter and will start the process of verifying the measure taken by the institute”.
