An arrest for “possession of clandestine weapons and ammunition” it was carried out last night by the Carabinieri of the Messina Giostra station, who found – in the home of a 21-year-old from Messina – a sawn-off shotgun with 32 cartridges and a pistol with an abraded serial number.

The arrest resulted from a house search that the military personnel carried out as part of a series of self-initiative checks aimed at searching for illegally held weapons, as well as aimed at repressing any related illicit conduct.

In particular, in an envelope hidden on a kitchen cabinet, the Carabinieri found the rifle and the related ammunition, as well as the pistol, in relation to which the subject had no title to possession.

The 21-year-old was then arrested and transferred to the Messina prison at the disposal of the judicial authority, while the weapons and ammunition – after having been seized – will then be handed over to the Carabinieri of the RIS of Messina for the ballistic tests of the case, aimed not only at tracing their origin, but also at verifying any previous use for the commission of other crimes.
