Messina, De Luca at Scirocco: “Within a week the decision on Basile’s resignation will be made, I don’t know if it will be enough to change a bolt…”

Cateno De Luca tries to leave open the door that leads to a U-turn with respect to the decision to bring Messina to early elections. The same goes for Scirocco, the talk hosted by Emilio Pintaldi, answering our questions (present were the director of Rtp Lucio D’Amico and the editor Sebastiano Caspanello, ndc), wants to take time: today the last meeting will be held «to finish the reconnaissance that we have been carrying out for a couple of months – he reveals live on Rtp – and by the end of next week we will reach a conclusion and get out of this Hamlet-like dilemma. I can say this with certainty. Monday? The week runs from Monday to Saturday…”. But there seems to be very little margin, on the contrary, and the ability to extend the announcement time is only due to the fact that there is also reasonable certainty about the election date: 24 and 25 May, with a possible run-off on 7 and 8 June.
De Luca has no doubts, «the natural deadline will not exist either in Rome or Palermo, and I say this with a certainty that comes from dynamics I have witnessed, there will be a vote much sooner. But our evaluation is of a different nature, I said there is a scene, the one that everyone sees, and behind it there is the backstory. To maintain this scene there are those who work behind the scenes and are responsible for maintaining a certain target. If it were enough to change one or two bolts of the gear, fine, but if this is not possible, because some load-bearing axle risks collapsing, then a problem arises there.” And this is why we will go to vote already this year.
«You will have a clear picture – promises De Luca – linked to an examination similar to the so-called “stress tests”, those which are done to understand what the residual resistance is. We are doing this and we will have the results next week. The evaluation concerns everyone, city councilors, councillors, participate.” An evaluation shared with the mayor Federico Basile, who therefore would not be “subjecting” the decision, but would be a participant in it. «We have started the reconnaissance and we are doing it together, what I understand is what Federico Basile understands, there is no diversity of views. I faced the emergency phase, as mayor I arrived in a “non-city”, then there was the phase of ordinary management, now there is a third phase, the strategic one. We are checking this: are there the conditions, with this team, to play the strategic match?”.
