Eighteen distinct provisions prohibiting access to urban areas (commonly known as “Daspo Willy”) e two expulsion orders with a ban on return were adopted against as many subjects by commissioner of Messina Annino Garganoas indifferent measures aimed at stemming serious episodes of urban violence. The measures in question arise from the outcome of the careful investigative activity carried out by the Anti-Crime Division of the Messina Police Headquarters, on the basis of the decisive investigative contributions of the Flying Squad and the Police squad for the events that occurred in the city, as well as of the detached police station of Capo D’Orlando and the Carabinieri Station Commands of Brolo, Sant’Alessio Siculo and Giardini Naxos for the events that occurred in the province.
A violent brawl in the city in March 2024
The first episode dates back to March 24th and concerns three minors involved in a violent attack against other peers outside a club in the city center of Messina. The attack culminated in the beating of a young man who was hit so brutally that he suffered injuries judged to be healable in 40 days. The three minors were banned from entering public establishments, with the duration of the prevention measure imposed being differentiated between years 1 and 3, in relation to the police records weighing on the subjects involved and the seriousness of their conduct.

To confirm the line adopted with respect to serious episodes of violence and illegality, the same measure was adopted against ten subjects involved in the brawl which occurred on March 24th inside a nightclub in Giardini Naxos. The investigations, corroborated by the viewing of video images extrapolated from the video surveillance system inside the premises, made it possible to reconstruct the phases of the fight and identify those responsible. Also in this case, the duration of the prevention measure imposed ranges from one to three years in relation to the police records weighing on the subjects involved and the seriousness of the conduct carried out.
The violent attack that occurred in Brolo last July
A further deplorable attack took place last 24 July outside a nightclub located on the Brolo seafront by three citizens of Moroccan nationality against three other patrons. The video surveillance systems recorded the different phases of the attack following which two of the victims suffered serious injuries. With regard to the findings of the investigation, two of the three authors of the violent conduct were banned from entering public establishments for a period of 3 years, while the third, who savagely kicked and punched another customer, also throwing land, a moped regularly parked in the immediate vicinity, was ordered to leave the territory of the municipality of Brolo with a ban on returning for a period of 3 years.

Finally, the brawl that took place in Piazza Cairoli last October 1st near a fast-food restaurant made it necessary to intervene by the state police, whose investigative work made it possible to trace the identity of three subjects, all of foreign nationality and burdened by a criminal record. The three subjects, recipients of DACUR lasting three years, had in fact been filmed by the video surveillance systems present in the area intent on kicking and punching wildly, regardless of the presence of other citizens.
The second of the expulsion orders with a ban on return was finally issued against a person responsible for the theft of a mobile phone perpetrated inside a restaurant in Sant’Alessio Siculo, a crime for which he had already been referred to the authorities judicial. He will not be able to return to the municipality of Sant’Alessio Siculo for a period of 4 years.
