The planting of new plane trees along Viale Giostra has officially begun. The intervention represents the natural continuation of the path started in recent months when, in agreement between the Municipality and Messinaservizi, it was necessary to proceed with the felling of the existing specimens.
The instrumental analyzes had in fact highlighted a high risk of crash, making their removal essential to protect the safety of citizens. As already announced, yesterday 25 November, replacement work began with 35 new plane trees, intended to replace not only the recently removed trees, but also the missing ones on the other side of the service road, where further interventions had been carried out in previous years.
The new plane trees, coming from specialized nurseries in Northern Italy, are specimens of medium height. Although they may currently appear leafless, they are simply dormant, a natural condition also influenced by the unusually high temperatures recorded in those regions in recent weeks.
The plants have vital buds in excellent condition, a sign of correct development in progress: it will be sufficient to wait for the normal sprouting period for the trees to fill with leaves and take on a full and lush appearance. Before the new plantings, important structural corrections were carried out in the tiles to guarantee optimal conditions for the growth of the plants.
Thanks to the technical support of AMAM, a new irrigation system was also installed, which is essential to ensure a constant and adequate water supply to the new trees in the initial stages. From 2021, by virtue of the service contract with the Municipality of Messina, Messinaservizi not only manages the maintenance of public green areas, but also deals with the assessment of the stability of the entire city trees, operating with rigor, professionalism and responsibility. Community safety remains the top priority.
