The international conference “La Langue et La Culture Occitanes au Carrefour des Sociétés” took place on 4 and 5 June, organized by the group “Les Jeunes Chercheurs en Domaine Occitan”. The initiative brought together young scholars from Italy, France and Spain to Montpellier to reflect on the role of the Occitan language and culture in a European context, understood as a meeting space between ideas, cultural and social practices.

The inaugural conference was entrusted to academics Gilda Cäiti-Russo, Hervé Lieutard and Philippe Martel, who discussed Petit Thalamus de Montpelhièr. Following, eighteen interventions divided into six thematic sessions have ranged from linguistics to literature, from pedagogy to gender studies.
On the second day there was talk of Occitani cultural and political movements (1968–1981), Trobadoric tradition, popular music, and the presence of the Oppine in Italy. Particular interest aroused the final communication on the Occitan of Piedmontese guard, focused on the use of the local variety in the fantasy narrative of Domenico Iacovo. To present the work was Francesco Starace, PhD student of the University of Naples Federico II.

Thanks to the precious work of Starace, who with professionalism and competence has exposed the unmistakably Occitan traits of the speech guardala through the dialogues and compositions present in Shana, the writings of Iacovo, for almost a year now translator of the Occitan linguistic desk of the province of Cosenza, have affirmed themselves in all respects as literary works worthy of the academic environment. They project themselves as well as cultural and linguistic testimony at 360 degrees in the Occitan world. It was Starace who revealed the most authentically authentically Aquitane aspect of Piedmontese guard at the Academy, and therefore to the entire French Occitanic context, which – after years of deafening silence and almost non -existent extraterritorial operation – finally recognizes the living and authentic Occitan matrix of the Calabrian community.

On the basis of Iacovo’s literature, of his strong and indispensable commitment to conduct Occitan Guardiolo beyond the Alpine chain and in the places of origin, and thanks to the indispensable contribution of Francesco Starace, the Occitania of France – the academic one, directly linked to the glory of the Trobadoric lyric – returns to look at the Piedmontese guard as at a living and significant point of a united occipt.

The developments of this rediscovery are now expected with interest, finally re -evaluated after a long period of failure to be careful. Great curiosity also accompanies the announcement of the third volume of the trilogy, with which the magnificent and royal wolf Shanna, born from the pen of Iacovo and symbolically accompanied to Montpellier from Starace, will drag Piedmontese guard to the academic laurels: just like in the story Guide Arnes on the throne of Rouergue, where Aquitania rejoins his daughter Guardiola.
