On the Messina-Palermo line: “The train is too full, either get off or we won’t leave again”

As if the water crisis wasn’t enough. Now even the trains to…, expulsion.
“There are too many people on the train, many standing, until one of you decides to get off on your own we cannot leave again”: this is the incredible appeal made by Trenitalia staff to passengers on the regional train that left Messina on Saturday at 5:03 PM, and was due to arrive in Palermo at 7:55 PM.
But at the Cefalù stop, shortly after 7pm, the train remained stationary for more than half an hour due to excessive number of passengers who boarded the train at the station, many of whom crowded together standing along the corridors of the carriages.
“Please – reconstructs one of the passengers who witnessed the incident – it was said several times, with translation into English, by Trenitalia staff to the people on board, since there are no assigned seats, we ask those who are not in a hurry to get off and take the next train, otherwise we cannot leave again and we risk blocking the next convoy as well”.
An appeal that initially fell on deaf ears, to the amazement of the passengers. Until, after more than half an hour, some decided to get off and the train left again in the direction of Palermo, where it arrived later than scheduled. Who knows if this option is included in the contract between Trenitalia and the Region.
Of course, someone should explain that when you buy a ticket you don’t imagine the possible “expulsion” due to overcrowding. Because, you imagine, that when the train reaches maximum capacity the ticket offices should no longer accept other passengers on the “solt out” route. But evidently in Sicily a different regime applies.
