Today, 4 November 2025, on the occasion of National Unity and Armed Forces Day, the Castrovillari Carabinieri Barracks, as has already happened in previous years, opened its doors to the very young Castrovillari students.
In fact, after the solemn celebration held in front of the War Memorial with the laying of a laurel wreath in memory of all the war victims, in the presence of the local military and civil authorities, the Carabinieri hosted around 100 middle and elementary school students from some schools in the area.
The children followed, with great enthusiasm, a specially organized educational path: after the screening of a short film in which they had a first understanding of the various branches of the Army, the children followed their “guides in uniform” in several stations where some tasks carried out by the individual departments, including the specialized ones of the Forestry Department, were illustrated in practical terms.
The young students thus had the opportunity to get to know the vehicles of the Radiomobile Emergency Response Unit 112, used to control the territory, as well as the equipment and materials that allow the Carabinieri to work safely in all circumstances. The military explained the risks deriving from the use of drugs and alcohol.
Afterwards, a crime scene was simulated, in which the activities carried out by the Carabinieri to search for any useful evidence during crime inspections were explained. In this regard, the students were able to attend a practical demonstration of the exaltation and collection of fingerprints.
Subsequently, the Forestry Carabinieri illustrated to the children the main activities aimed at protecting nature, explaining the importance of respecting the ecosystems that surround us, which are necessary for everyone’s life.
The driving force of this splendid day was the enthusiasm of the young students who, with curious and often “arduous” questions, kept the attention of everyone present high, allowing their Carabinieri to have a challenging and absolutely constructive discussion.
In the wake of these initiatives, the Army wanted once again to express its closeness to the communities entrusted to it, with whom it is necessary – from an early age – to collaborate for the good and safety of the territory.
In this indispensable synergy of intent and in the framework of the consolidated “Culture of Legality” project, the Carabinieri have always paid particular attention to the new generations, for which meetings with children from all schools will also be organized during this school year.
