It is from the Polistena hospital that MP Francesco Cannizzaro has chosen to announce a parliamentary initiative intended to directly impact the stability of the Calabrian healthcare system. In fact, in the next few hours an amendment to the Milleproroghe Decree will take shape, designed to ensure continuity of assistance and avoid interruptions in hospital services.

“We are here to bring a concrete response”, explained the Honorable Cannizzaro, underlining that he has already obtained the green light from the Government. “An amendment that will allow the doctors of the hospitals of Polistena, Locri and all of Calabria to continue to carry out their essential task. And it will apply to all those in Italy who find themselves in the same conditions as them”.

Ensure continuity of care

At the same time, a legislative process shared with the President of the Calabria Region Roberto Occhiuto and the President of the Regional Council Salvatore Cirillo was started. An initiative that aims to guarantee continuity of care even in the phase preceding the conversion into law of the amendment. “We have already put in place a process that will allow us not to leave the services uncovered until the definitive approval of the law”, specified the deputy.

“Politics has a place to act with facts”

The sit-in organized in front of the hospital wanted to send a clear message linked to the urgency of the issue. “There is no discussion about essential services: politics has the duty to intervene immediately, with concrete actions”, reiterated Cannizzaro, placing healthcare at the center of his parliamentary agenda and calling on the institutions to take responsibility for protecting a fundamental right, which is particularly fragile in the territories.

Cirillo: «Regional Council on 16 January to guarantee the continuity of services»

In this direction, the President of the Regional Council Salvatore Cirillo announced the convocation of an ad hoc Regional Council for next January 16th, during which the legislative process will be launched. «On that occasion, I will promote – explains Cirillo – a regional law proposal that allows us to guarantee continuity of care, temporarily filling the regulatory gap until the national amendment is converted into law».

«When essential services are at risk – concludes Cirillo – politics has the duty to act in a coordinated, rapid and responsible way. Healthcare has no political color: each institution is called to do its part to protect citizens’ right to health.”
