According to Gaza Civil Protection sources cited by Al Jazeeraat least six Palestinians were killed in an Israeli attack that hit a school in the Tuffah neighborhood of eastern Gaza City. The structure had been transformed into a shelter for displaced people. Among the numerous injured were several children. The Qatari broadcaster harshly condemned the episode, calling it yet another violation of the ceasefire agreement currently in force.
The Israeli army’s response and the start of investigations
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed the operation, announcing the opening of an internal investigation to clarify the dynamics of the incident. While local media, including The Times of Israelreport an initial toll of five deaths, the army provided a first tactical reconstruction: the troops, engaged in operations along the demarcation line in the north of the Strip, would have identified some “suspects” inside structures located on the western side of the so-called “Yellow Line”, in an area not under the direct control of the IDF.
The gray areas on dynamics
In the official statement, the army specified that the soldiers opened fire immediately after identifying the subjects. However, it was not specified whether those affected were armed or to what extent they posed a concrete threat to troops at the border. Tension therefore remains high regarding the stability of the truce, pending the results of the military investigations.
