Reggio Christmas City, solidarity lunch at Palazzo San Giorgio: fragile subjects and families in difficulty hosted at the Reggio Town Hall

By John

An ancient tradition is renewed at Palazzo San Giorgio: the premises of the Municipality of Reggio Calabria open their doors to the poorest for an elegant lunch served by local companies. A welcome that had not occurred in the building that is the symbol of the city’s institutions for many years. Over fifty seats reserved for the most needy, inside the gallery of Palazzo San Giorgio in Reggio Calabria.

Boxing Day lunch is served: veils of Parma ham with melon petals, caponatina of mint-scented vegetables, carnaroli rice with yellow pumpkin, gorgonzola, speck and walnuts and crusted veal with baked potatoes.

These are some of the delicious dishes served with white gloves by the best waiters in the city. Thanks to the local companies Acqua Leo, Vini Tramontana and CafèNoir, the Metropolitan City, through Svi.Pro.Re, and in collaboration with the Municipality of Reggio Calabria, has created for the first time an elegant solidarity lunch aimed at the most vulnerable categories, to those families or individuals who during the year access the services offered by virtuous organizations operating in the area, with the precious supervision of Caritas Reggio Calabria, which also collaborated on this initiative.

Three types of appetizer, two first courses, a second course and dessert, the solidarity lunch menu offered to people in difficulty. The initiative is part of the ‘Reggio Christmas City’ solidarity events.

Men, women, children, families have thus joined the initiative, filling the gallery of Palazzo San Giorgio for a hot meal and a service with attention to the smallest details, in what is considered the “living room” of the city.

“For me it was a dream – one of the guests declared with emotion – here we were welcomed and pampered like in a real family. Thank you with all my heart”.

“Today the gallery of Palazzo San Giorgio, the home of the people of Reggio, opened up to people in difficulty for a nice Christmas lunch. A way to be closer, in these festive days, to those who find themselves going through a bad period in their lives. Because if it’s Christmas, it must be for everyone.” These are the words of the mayor of Reggio Calabria Giuseppe Falcomatà who commented on one of the noble initiatives of Christmas 2023 designed for the most needy by the Metropolitan City with Svi.Pro.Re and in collaboration with the Municipality of Reggio Calabria.
