“An important political step in the path of reconstruction, unity and relaunch of the Messina Democratic Party”. Thus Hyerace at the conclusion of today’s town meeting convened together with the provincial leadership of the party.

The appointment of Alessandro Russo as coordinator of the citizen clubs of Messina is placed in this context, “a shared choice that strengthens the path of internal cohesion started after the congress phase. A decision that testifies to the party’s desire to definitively overcome divisions and personalisms, putting collective work, territorial roots and the construction of a ruling class capable of creating a synthesis in the common interest at the centre”. The coordinator will accompany the journey towards the city congress and will contribute to strengthening the bond between clubs and communities.

The assembly – continues the note – wanted to reiterate the need to activate a structured path towards a programmatic conference that puts “sensitive” issues at the center regarding people’s daily lives through the creation of open thematic forums which represent the heart of the political and programmatic path towards the 2026-2027 administrative elections. The forums will address the main issues of the city – from the suburbs to welfare, from mobility to development and work, from the environment to young people, up to legality and public ethics – and will be open to the contribution of associations, committees, civic worlds and progressive forces.

With the approval of an agenda, the need was highlighted, which has always been essential for the Democratic Party, to create tools and opportunities for in-depth analysis of the phenomena of clientelism, corruption and mafias, involving large sections of society, giving voice to those who, especially in the environments affected by the investigations, “want to express an alternative to practices and systems of power”.

The objective is to build, through a participatory and inclusive method, a serious and credible program and arrive at a programmatic conference by February, avoiding improvisations and shortcuts. Internal unity and openness to the city are the two political guidelines that the Democratic Party strongly relaunches: “Only in this way is it possible to build a solid alternative to the current city government and give Messina a future perspective based on good politics, participation and responsibility”.
