“The deputy mayor Giusy Iemma was right to draw attention to a new plunder which risks taking place to the detriment of the Catanzaro healthcare system and, specifically, of the Karol Betania structure. The revocation of the accreditation of the extensive extra-hospital rehabilitation service, from what we learn from a decree of the commissioner ad acta, represents a severe blow to a facility that guarantees continuous and quality care and assistance, often also making up for the shortcomings of the public service . Disregarding the function of the precious activity carried out by Karol Betania would mean slamming the door in the face of hundreds of users and all the families who, on a daily basis, benefit from a reality that has been present in the area for years”. This was stated in a press release by the councilor municipal Fabio Celia.

“If the same fate, on an even more significant scale, also happened to the Sant’Anna Hospital, we begin to suspect – according to Celia – that there may be a direction behind the accreditations which aims to weaken healthcare in Catanzaro to prepare the ground for advantage of other territories. I hope that this remains just a bad thought, but as a municipal councilor of Catanzaro I cannot help but express my concern by representing the feelings of an entire community. Appealing to the sensitivity of those responsible for protecting the interests of Catanzaro at a regional level, with a view to homogeneity and balance of the Calabrian healthcare system, we need to raise the level of attention on this topic before it is too late. We are not playing on the rights of people and patients, we expect policies from the Calabria Region which aim to strengthen and safeguard existing facilities, rather than dismantling them, causing damage to the entire community”.
