Jannik Sinner’s 2024 is off to a good start. The leader of Italian tennis, in the Kooyong Classic in Melbourne, an invitational exhibition tournament that precedes the Australian Open, beat the host Marc Polmans 6-4 6-0.
From 3-4, the blue won the last nine games of the match. Sinner returns to action tonight against Casper Ruud, who he defeated twice out of two in Vienna between 2020 and 2021.
The organizers also announced the presence of Matteo Berrettini, who however did not take the field on the second day. The tournament, which in recent editions has no longer had a real scoreboard nor even a winner, however boasts a long tradition and a prestigious roll of honor in which the three consecutive victories of Michael Chang (1995-97) stand out, Andre Agassi (2000-01, 2003) and Andy Roddick (2006-08).
