Filomena Ferrer, a nun in the odor of sanctity. Her story is retraced in the pages of the book by another cloistered nun of the order of Saint Francis, Maria Francesca De Matteis.
The 38-year-old author of the text “Ti presento Filomena” has a law degree and has followed her vocation and path of faith, entrusting herself to the tribunal of God rather than that of men. The book – a story that amazes and moves – will be presented in the chapel of the monastery of Paola by Don Emanuele Scarpino and the author tomorrow at 6pm.
De Matteis has researched extensively to rediscover the magnificent figure of the minimal contemplative of Filomena Ferrer who, at the age of 16, confided to her parents her desire to be religious, encountering strong opposition, especially from her mother. She then entered the monastery of the Minimum nuns of Valls (Spain) in the second half of the 19th century, at the age of 19, distinguishing herself from the beginning for her fidelity to her religious duties and to the penitential rule of its founder, Saint Francis of Paola.
Ferrer worked tirelessly to build a monastery of the Order in her hometown, Mora d’Ebre, with an adjoining expiatory temple.
Sister Filomena, after facing countless difficulties, finally offered her life to God as a sacrifice for the success of the foundation. For this reason the monastery, inaugurated 26 years after her death, has remained forever linked to the figure of this young nun who was the foundation not only of the material building, but above all of the spiritual one which would be the community of Minime nuns of Mora d’Ebre.
His mystical experiences are reflected in his writings, although short, in particular they are mostly autobiographical texts.
