Now it’s official. The M5s community will also decide on the thorniest issues. Those who have been inflaming the base for weeks like the five-star leaders. The second phase of the constituent process, launched by Giuseppe Conte in the aftermath of the European vote, includes objects to be handled with care. The modification of the role of the guarantor, covered by Beppe Grillo, and that of the president. The change of the name and symbol of the Movement. And then the review of the two-term limit and the choice of alliances.

The 5 Star activists are called upon to express themselves on these issues, and many others, at the “deliberative discussion” tables that will animate the race towards the final Assembly in November. 300 members and 30 supporters have the task of developing concrete proposals to be submitted to the final vote.

After the announcement on the site, Conte kicks off “phase two” in a video. “You decided the priorities of the Constituent Assembly and all this is certified, in a transparent way, by independent companies”, he says, addressing a “lively and very lively community”. Words in which many read a hidden message directed to Grillo, after the repeated attacks made by the guarantor on the constituent process. For Campo Marzio, the themes chosen by the 5s community are also interpreted as a clear signal that the base gives to the founder, who on several occasions had vetoed the possibility of discussing values considered untouchable. And instead, mandates, symbol, and role of the guarantor himself end up in the forge of the Constituent Assembly. The outcome of which remains uncertain. Meanwhile, Grillo is preparing for the final battle, which always seems more political than legal. The founder does not stand by and watch a constituent process that now officially undermines his function. And he goes on the counterattack with emails and digital meters. After launching his ‘Bacheca del Mugugnì, he returns to social media to draw up an initial assessment. «Great participation, – he writes – 22,837 e-mails arrived! Thank you all for the feedback!

Grillo insists on the numbers of the project with which he intends to collect five-star complaints. And there are many who notice the 800 more contributions compared to the 22 thousand collected by the Constituent Assembly wanted by Conte. If you then look at the contents of the emails, relaunched by Grillo, the competition appears more than evident. Among the messages published, there are those who ask Grillo for help to save the Movement, evoking a split. Those who define the Constituent Assembly as a “farce” and criticize Conte. And those who simply embrace the “origins movement” supported by Grillo. And in Transatlantic, around the M5s, there are those who don’t take it well. “It’s a selective grumbling, there’s no transparency”, someone reasons, attacking the choice to publish only some of the thousands of emails received by Grillo. «An even more relevant bulletin board – it is said with malice – concerns the avalanche of negative comments on the founder’s posts». Even more grim is the look with which Campo Marzio looks at a an initiative which “does not go well with a role of guarantee and impartiality and which risks adding fuel to the fire”. President Conte, who had already avoided responding to Grillo in recent days, focuses on the issues. Of the initial 20, the result of thousands of contributions, only 12 reach phase two. And the leader insists on those at the top of the list of the 153 thousand preferences expressed by the approximately 15 thousand members: health, work, tax evasion, peace and justice .
