Kiev will receive from USA a new supply of super bombsmedium and long range, known as JSOW (Joint StandOff Weapon). These can be used by F-16 supplied to Ukraine. The range of the bombs varies based on the launch altitude: if launched at high altitudecan reach distances of 130-150 kilometers. On the contrary, a low altitude the radius is reduced to less than 50 kilometers. However, the possibility of launching from high altitudes depends on air superiority, currently in Russian hands.
The JSOW I am cluster bombs that they can contain 145 sub-munitions in the basic version, while the variant against the armor it can hold up to 24. They are glide bombs, equipped with wings and a guidance system, but not an engine, as happens with rockets and missiles. Their operational range depends on the plane carrying them: the distance traveled by the plane adds to that of the bomb itself.
The bombs they are long 410 centimetreswith a wingspan of 270 centimetresand they weigh 450 kilos. A project is under development to add a motor, which could extend the range up to 560 kilometers.
