Superbonus decree: the Senate approves, now passes to the Chamber. Tajani: “Perplexed but trust in the government is not lost”

The Superbonus decree is approved in the Senate with 101 yes, 64 no, no abstentions. The measure, for which the government requested and obtained a vote of confidence, now passes to the Chamber.

“We continue to have many doubts about the Superbonus and we are against any hypothesis of a retroactive law, in any sector – said the secretary of Forza Italia, deputy prime minister and foreign minister Antonio Tajani -. It's a question of principle. We do not give up the defense of our principles. Having said that, an amendment that we do not agree with does not in any way undermine confidence in the government. We voted and we always will trust this government of which we are a protagonist but we will always continue to say what we think with great transparency and loyalty.”

“The banks were the first buyer of these credits and therefore we were surprised by an unexpected and unpredictable rule which also has a retroactive effect because it says that those already purchased from January 1st cannot deduct them from social security and insurance costs”, he said the president of the Abi Antonio Patuelli during a meeting in Turin for the award ceremony for excellence in the banking sector. The impact on banks? “The calculation is not feasible because it is not a flat rule but full of arranged combinations that we as Abi with the banks have tried to analyse, we have made some assessments but the arranged combinations are quicksand”, observed Patuelli.

In a practically deserted chamber of the Senate, the first to speak was the leader of Action Carlo Calenda who rejected without appeal the decree on the Superbonus for which the government asked for a vote of confidence yesterday. “We are at the redde rationem”, begins Calenda, who defines the measure as “the craziest”, the “most unfair” and the “most right-wing ever made in republican history”. The senator reiterates his opposition to the idea “that around 160 billion euros could be spent to give money to everyone, a small part to those who need it and a huge portion to those who don't need it”https://gazzettadelsud. it/articles/economics/2024/05/16/superbonus-decree-the-senate-approves-now-passes-to-the-chamber-tajani-perplexed-but-confidence-in-the-government-is not lost- 7fc57393-36c4-435d-8631-55983f105689/.”Every time you choose the path of tipping, in the end you have to do the math”, observes Calenda who considers the Superbonus “the result of that anxiety to find resources” to gain consensus electoral. But above all “the son also of incompetence and approximation”.

“I have listened to valuable technical reflections. I limit myself to the political ones – said Matteo Renzi, the leader of Italia Viva, in his explanation of vote -. You give an inadequate response to a wrong measure. You are the government of taxes. After the vote in the Commission , in which thanks to our support the sugar tax was prevented, they accused us of being in favor of this government: we are against it, we do not vote for confidence in this government”.

“A few considerations on the method of this provision. It was not easy – said the senator of the League Massimo Garavaglia, president of the Senate Finance Commission, during the explanations of vote in the Chamber -. Because the Forza Italia group not only abstained on the government amendment but also voted with the opposition. Despite Forza Italia's attitude, the amendment was approved and the work ended in an orderly manner with the mandate given to the rapporteur to Salvitti”.
