THE’Italian ambassador to Iran, Paola Amadei, was summoned to Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tehran after the Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani has announced his intention to propose the inclusion of Iranian Revolutionary Guards (Pasdaran) on the list of terrorist organizations in the European Union.
Amadei was summoned by Ali Reza Yousefi, general manager for Western Europe.
Confirmation from the Farnesina
There Farnesina confirmed the summons of Ambassador Amadei, specifying that it is one formal protest against the Foreign Minister’s statements on Pasdaran.
Tehran’s reaction
According to what was reported by Iranian media, Yousefi defined those of Tajani «irresponsible statements”. THE Guardians of the Revolution, he explained, are «part of the official armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran” and “any sanction will have harmful consequences.”
Hence the request addressed to Italy to «review his reckless attitude.”
Tajani: “The repression in Iran is unacceptable”
«It’s not our fault – replied Tajani – if there was one carnage in Iran and the opposition that was in the streets was massacred. Thousands and thousands of deaths. This is it unacceptable”.
«Until next time European Council on Thursday – he added – we will propose together with others sanctions against Pasdaran and we will give a favorable opinion to those who ask to include them in the list of terrorist organizations”.
