«An organized drug dealing activity to be sourced and distributed on the market in a systematic way». This is how the Court of Cassation describes the operations of the Spagnolo family who between 2020 and 2021 set up drug trafficking in Crotone with the historic center as its epicentre. And it does so in the 40 pages of reasons for the sentence with which, last September 25th, it made 5 convictions definitive and ordered a new appeal in Catanzaro for the other 4 defendants. As you will remember, the sentences for Ercole Spagnolo have become irrevocable and he must serve 9 years; for Francesco Spagnolo, 6 years old; Gianluca La Forgia, 5 years old; Andrea Rizza, 4 years old; and Gaetano Scicchitano, 4 years, 5 months and 10 days. Instead, Giuseppe Spagnolo (who in the first appeal had been inflicted 19 years and 4 months of imprisonment), Alessandro Spagnolo (9 years and 6 months) and Luigi Spagnolo (6 years, 11 months and 20 days) and Vittoria Covelli (acquitted) will have to undergo another second degree trial.
