The Committee representing the mayors of the Catanzaro healthcare sector has been officially structured. The mayors of Catanzaro and Lamezia Terme will carry out the functions of president and vice president, respectively Nicola Fiorita And Paolo Mascaro. The election was formalized on the recommendation of the other three members of the Committee, the mayors of Soverato, Daniele Vacca, of Chiaravalle, Domenico Donatoand Soveria Mannelli, Michele Chiodo.
The body, which was reactivated several years later, can therefore now start the operational phase according to the regional law which assigns the Committee an important consultative role in relations with the provincial health authority and the Calabria Region. In particular, the unanimous will, already expressed by the broader Conference of Mayors of the Catanzaro area, is to implement all the most appropriate measures to protect the communities, in light of the critical issues inherent to local healthcare.

First of all, the issue relating to the reorganization of medical guards at regional level, which would seriously jeopardize the survival of local healthcare facilities and, therefore, citizens’ right to health. The action of the mayors, starting from the imminent Assembly convened for Monday 28 October in the Province of Catanzaro with Commissioner Occhiutois therefore aimed at preserving the essential levels of healthcare, especially in internal areas most exposed to risk. The request to adequately take into account, in the planning processes, the voices and proposals of the administrators working on the front line in the territories will therefore be reiterated.
