It is not a question of haste but of dossiers to be addressed. The center-left component of the majority wants to try to close as soon as possible the political verification started by the mayor Nicola Fiorita after the European elections in June. In fact, the time frame of the coupon is extending more than expected, contrary to the initial expectations nourished by Fiorita himself to do it quickly. The progressive component would also be ready to ask for a meeting with the mayor to take stock of various aspectsstarting from the tender for the separate waste collection service withdrawn in self-regulation, also passing through the definition of the reorganization of the council, in which at the moment only the rotation of Public Works seems to find room, with the entry of the mayor’s chief of staff, Pasquale Squillace, in place of the resigning Raffaele Scalise.
As for the negotiations to attempt a further expansion of the majority to include opposition elements – after what happened last year with the entry into the Talerico area of councilors elected on the lists supporting Valerio Donato – they seem to mark time: the opening of Stephen Veraldi (Action) to a centre-left project would not be considered sufficient at the moment by Fiorita who, according to what was reported by council sources, would have preferred a more conspicuous “dowry”, perhaps also including Donato and Gianni Parisi; a hypothesis that in light of what was seen in the municipal councils appears far-fetched at this stage.
In the meantime it is the Socialist Party, with the city coordinator Masino Paonessa, to reiterate the need to speed up the verification. “The city cannot wait any longer,” he says, “and it is our duty to address its problems, including those inherited from past administrations.”
