The States General of the PD Calabria, Mancuso: the mountains and inland areas a new resilient “look”

«“It’s about looking at the “everything” from a new point of observation: from depopulating countries to understanding clogged cities; from the abandoned mountains to the plains below and the coastal areas with their overload of second homes, now often abandoned; from the woods and highlands to reach the valley bottoms of polluted industrial decommissioning; from “minor” artistic and archaeological finds to contextualise the great masterpieces; from commuter trains with their load of inefficiency and inconvenience to reach high speed; from the urban outskirts of hardship and marginalization to rethink historic centres”. They couldn’t find more adequate words Carmine Donzelli And Domenico Cersosimo in their “Manifesto to Re-inhabit Italy” to redesign a new and adequate interpretative trajectory for the Italian “non-centre”. A vision full of suggestions, an intense collective imagination, a high and almost elusive gaze which, however, enters “inside” the most updated narrative on the condition of that part of the country, the Internal Areas and the Mountains, never before at the center of the ‘general attention’. He stated this in a note: Pasquale Mancuso, of the sPD Calabria regional secretariat – Internal Areas.

«Perhaps it was the pandemic that “declined” a new anxiety and expectation of the quality of life, a question – continued Mancuso – and a new request; that of being far from the chaos of the city, with slower, less unnerving, more “human” rhythms and times, more in tune with the “clean” daily life of small towns, small communities, where the air is clean, the food is good, the “experience” is that of the “neighborhood”, of the “wrinkle” we would say in Calabria, where every action is “parameterized” to something real, true, which can be touched first-hand and the seasons are still marked by the usual appointments which, although overlapping, due to the crazy climate, still express its richness and value while even the work, “remote”, “smart working”, or advanced technology, almost a paradox, has been “functional” to this new “story” to which have been added, not by chance, the rediscovery of “experiential” tourism, the silent one of “paths”, the engaging one of “transhumance””.

«And it was a happy overflow – according to Mancuso – the underlining of unique “testimonials” who, in our country, have encouraged, stimulated and pushed forward this now generalized and widespread awareness, from cinema to non-fiction, from the Church to the top of the Republic , from schools to universities, to associations, to voluntary work and to foundations, many of which in the country are dedicated to this new and important field of commitment and testimony”.

«This fruitful sensitivity – again according to Mancuso – had to and could be translated into a political project, into a non-extemporaneous translation, not of circumstance and not of a moment but linked to a short and long-term perspective to “signify” a strategic choice, truly lived as such and able to “inaugurate”, everywhere in the country, and obviously also in Calabria, a new and positive front of political and institutional commitment”.

«In Mormanno, in the heart of Pollino, the whole PD, Elly Schlein in mind who very strongly wanted this compelling and courageous bet, will find themselves – concluded Mancuso – to reconfirm this commitment, to broaden solidarity and convergences, to establish a new alliance of “merit” for the Mountains and the Internal Areas of Calabria and the country in the a sign of that authentic and true “reconnection” without which there is no alternative. This is the path and our boots have tight laces.”
