The Calabrian village of Melicuccà is preparing to celebrate with the Poetry Festival one of its most illustrious sons. From today until Sunday the streets, the squares, the buildings will resound with the verses of Lorenzo Calogeroone of the most original and representative Italian poets of the twentieth century. A rich program of events with the participation of some of the most important names on the literary scene, including Aldo Nove, Vivian Lamarque, Nicola Crocetti, Tiziano Scarpa and Michele Caccamowhich will open the Poetry Festival.
“Calogero – says Caccamo – must become a nail in the head of the system; his voice, his verses, must be the new motivation to make human beings change their minds, to make them understand that above these artificial mechanisms humanity exists and resists.”
With them too Giancarlo Cauteruccio, Daniel Cundari, Franca Mancinelli and many other artists, musicians, intellectuals and performers. Many works are also on display in the rooms of Palazzo Capua, including a recent sculpture by the Calabrian artist and essayist Antonio Tropiano.
The mayor of Melicuccà, Vincenzo Oliverio, underlines the importance of the initiative, which «can become a powerful catalyst for cultural, economic and social progress throughout the Calabrian territory. I hope that at least the digital copies of Calogero’s handwritten notebooks kept in the archives of the University of Calabria can finally return to Melicuccà».
«The Poetry Festival wants to be a choral tribute to Lorenzo Calogero, a moment of meeting and comparison on this immense poetry in his Melicuccà», says Nino Cannatà, creator and artistic director of the event.
“Poetry belongs to everyone. Rediscovering together the immense gift that lies in Lorenzo Calogero’s verses is the occasion for a great Poetry Festival”, says Aldo Nove, co-artistic director of the Festival.
The Poetry Festival is curated by Lyriks editions with the artistic direction of Nino Cannatà and Aldo Nove and is supported by the Municipality of Melicuccà, with the patronage and support of the Calabria Region, the Metropolitan City of Reggio Calabria, and the patronage of the Municipalities of Bagnara Calabra, Palmi, Villa San Giovanni and Gal Batir.
