First victory for Paolo Vanoli’s Torino. The Granata, after the heavy atmosphere due to the pre-match protest against president Urbano Cairo for what happened during the transfer market (with the sales of Buongiorno and Bellanova), won 2-1 at home against Atalanta thanks to goals from Adams and Ilic and Milinkovic-Savic, who saved a penalty kicked by Pasalic in the final minutes. “Useless”, however, was Retegui’s third goal in the Orobic shirt.
The challenge at the Olimpico ignited immediately when Lazaro, after breaking through through the middle, failed to get past Carnesecchi. The initial scare gave the Nerazzurri a jolt, and they responded with Ederson, hypnotized by Milinkovic-Savic’s low tackle. Within a handful of minutes, Mateo Retegui came to life, after a chance deflected wide by the Granata defenders, the Italian-Argentine unlocked the match (in the 26th minute) thanks to a header in the area following a cross from Zappacosta. The home team, however, found the equalizer in the 31st minute with Ilic: a perfect ball from Adams, the Serbian managed to get past the Bergamo goalkeeper with a touch underneath.

Fiorentina and Venezia split the spoils at the end of an unentertaining but balanced match in which the two goalkeepers were the best on the pitch. The guests were more satisfied at the end of the match, suffering only in the final 15 minutes of the first half but actually holding up very well against Kean and his teammates who on the other hand showed technical and tactical difficulties as well as a difficult psychological moment.
The hosts, who initially had to give up Quarta, physically injured, as well as Pongracic, who was suspended, struggled to be dangerous in the last twenty meters of Venezia, even though Joronen, the best player on the pitch, had to say no at least three times between the 31st and 42nd minute, first on a bicycle kick by Kouame, then on Parisi and finally on Richardson, but in all circumstances on extemporaneous actions. Kean’s movement was good as a lone striker but he was not assisted much, so much so that the Veneto defense struggled not too much to contain him, also due to the lackluster performance of Barak, who was not by chance replaced before the hour mark with Colpani, who nevertheless had no impact.
On the other hand, Di Francesco had to give up Oristanio, who was cautioned, and Gytkjaer, who was impalpable, immediately after the break. Venezia closes up and tries to restart and almost takes the lead in the middle of the second half with Terracciano first decisive on Zampano and then on Raimondo. Between the first and second chances, Nicolussi Caviglia makes his debut, one of the purchases on which the lagoon team has invested the most. A final push in search of success by Fiorentina is expected but the Viola get little from the substitutes with tactical confusion, and an athletic condition still very far from being optimal.
The last real chance for the Gigliati was a left-footed shot from Biraghi a handful of seconds from the 90th minute, which ended up wide, too little to get the three points.
