A 76 meter arch, higher than the 21.3 of the White House and the 30.4 of the Lincoln Memorial. It is Donald Trump’s plan for the Independence Arch, the president’s arch of triumph, to celebrate 250 years of America.
As reported by the Washington Post, the president has evaluated two other smaller projects but his preference would be for the larger arch, “250 feet for 250 years”.
A stance that leaves many architects skeptical, convinced that the dimensions proposed by the president are too large and such a structure would radically change the city’s landscape and visual balance. Trump has for months been promoting the idea of an arch similar to the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, which measures almost 50 meters in height.
