Jonas Vingegaard enters the history of world cycling. The Danish champion won the 109th edition of the Giro d’Italia by also imposing himself in the twentieth stage, with an uphill finish in Piancavallo, at the end of a test dominated from start to finish.
The rider from Denmark launched the decisive attack more than ten kilometers from the finish line, leaving all his rivals in place and flying towards a solitary victory which allowed him to put the definitive seal on the pink race.
The Triple Crown completes the masterpiece
With the success at the Giro d’Italia, Vingegaard completes the prestigious Triple Crown of stage cycling, adding the pink race to the triumphs already achieved at the Tour de France and the Vuelta de España. A result that projects him among the greats in the history of this sport.
Behind him, Felix Gall and Jay Hindley closed the stage and consolidated their respective positions in the general classification, who also completed the final podium of the event.
Eulalio best young man, Ciccone king of the mountains
Among the special classifications the hierarchies do not change. Afonso Eulalio retains the white jersey reserved for the best young rider of the Giro, while the Italian Giulio Ciccone maintains the leadership of the climbers’ classification, confirming himself as the best on the mountains of the race.
The final catwalk thus consecrates Vingegaard, the absolute protagonist of a Giro d’Italia that will remain in the annals and which completes an already extraordinary collection of successes.
