Three questions immediately sparked discussions on sewerage and the sea. Fratelli d’Italia asked for clarification on the sewage discharges into the sea and on the critical issues of the pipeline between Barcelona and San Paolo, while the problem of spills from the overflow in Via Eolie remains. Nicola Barbera then pressed the Administration on the quality of the water, contesting the methods and communication of the samples taken in Cicerata. The majority claimed laboratory tests, which confirmed that they were suitable for bathing. The confrontation has also become political. On the issue of water, the comparison showed the distance between the interpretation of the opposition and that of the majority.
This is the climate that emerged in the City Council meeting on 10 September, with 15 questions on the agenda. For the opposition, “not everything that has been done by the Scolaro administration is perfect, on the contrary”. The most heated confrontation concerned PalAlberti. Nicola Barbera challenged councilor Nino Munafò over the management of the 250 thousand euros already allocated to the structure and the contract for the coverage, after the company’s withdrawal. According to the councilor, the previous administration’s project would have been questioned until the tender failed, and then a similar solution was reached. Munafò’s reconstruction was of an opposite nature, explaining how the preliminary market investigation was necessary to verify and correct design deficiencies, especially in the part relating to safety. The new document must be passed by the Council before the competition. The back and forth was intense: the councilor claimed the project and funds, the councilor defended the Administration’s choices.
