Administrative 2025, in the small municipalities the double quorum starts: here’s what changes

The Senate started the examination of the decree law on the administrative elections and referendums of this spring. In the commission, the majority had presented an amendment that lowered the threshold from 50% to 40% to elect the mayors in the first round, but the amendment was then withdrawn. The only relevant novelty introduced to the Commission concerns small municipalities, under 15 thousand inhabitants. “Limited to the year 2025”, in these municipalities, “where only one list has been admitted and voted, all the candidates included in the list and the candidate for connected mayor, provided that it has reported a number of votes valid not less than 50 percent of the voters and the number of voters has not been less than 40 percent of the voters registered in the electoral lists of the Municipality have been elected. If these percentages are not reached, the election is nothing.
