George Russell completes a practically perfect weekend and wins the Austrian Formula 1 Grand Prix, taking the seventh victory of his career. The Briton from Mercedes, who hadn’t won since the opening race of this season in Australia, preceded the Red Bull of Max Verstappen and his teammate Andrea Kimi Antonelli, second and third respectively. Ferrari, after a good qualifying Saturday, did not go beyond fifth place with Lewis Hamilton, who finished behind Oscar Piastri’s McLaren. The other Red of Charles Leclerc, however, slips to eighth place, preceded by Isack Hadjar (Red Bull) and Lando Norris (McLaren). The two Racing Bulls of Liam Lawson and Arvid Lindblad complete the top 10 at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, Syria. Formula 1 doesn’t stop: next week it will stop at Silverstone for the British Grand Prix.
Russel: “Happy to be back to winning”
“I’m happy to be back on the top step of the podium, it’s been a while. We got back on track after a difficult period, today was a really good race. Max and the Red Bull were really strong. I had to manage every lap and push to the limit. We came back a little early and the second stint was longer, but the team managed the times well. Difficult races test you on a psychological level and the last two weekends have been vital for me. I can’t wait to get to Silverstone next week.” Mercedes driver George Russell said this after his triumph in the Austrian Formula 1 Grand Prix.
Antonelli: “Damage minimized”
“I was a little too enthusiastic in the first laps and made some mistakes, losing several seconds. After the tire change I reset everything and the pace was really good. It was a shame to enter the party a little too late. With a few more laps it would have been more fun for me. We minimized the damage.” Mercedes driver Andrea Kimi Antonelli said this after third place in the Austrian Formula 1 Grand Prix.
