Before the screening, mother Cetty’s emotional speech thanked the director for the creation of this short, “a work that educates and shakes consciences, teaching that violence can arise anywhere”. Sara’s mother explained how often “apparent normality teaches us not to underestimate the signs of a violence that smoldered without having a face or reason. Which was nourished by those invisible threads that bind too many men to the idea of possessing what is other than them”.
Then he added: “Never forget her and every time someone says there were no signs, think of her and commit to breaking those invisible threads.” The short has already received several awards: a few moving words from Fabio Schifilliti and Claudio Castrogiovanni, who underlined the value of images as a narrative proposal: “the fundamental function of cinema – said Schifilliti – is to transform darkness into light, pain into memory”. Director Benvegna was satisfied with the commitment of her children who, through this project, had the opportunity to approach a burning issue: “Gender violence involves us as educators, as parents and commits us to shedding light”.
